This is ridiculous–it’s supposed to be fall!

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Our temperatures have continued to be in the 80’s. I can’t believe that it’s October 4th, and it’s going to be 86 degrees tomorrow. I am so looking forward to fall. It’s not supposed to be down in the 70’s until the middle of next week sometime.

Who writes this stuff?

Friday, September 21st, 2007

A warning screen has been popping up on my monitor screen telling me that my “mouse batteries are critical.” Somehow, I don’t know that telling me that batteries are critical to the operation of my mouse warrants a warning screen. What could they mean? Oh, yes, maybe that the mouse batteries are [...]

Amy Wilhoite

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I’ve had Amy’s site linked in the sidebar for a long time. She’s not doing very well, and her situation just seems particularly heartbreaking to me. Please pray for her and her family. Amy was homeschooled.

iPhone Craze

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Well, it makes me sick to think of people having to have something like that…and having to have it RIGHT NOW! Sheesh, and the price tag! To use a cliche: What is the world coming to? It’s nauseating to see people who can’t control their desire to have more stuff.

Discipline

Friday, January 12th, 2007

It makes me sad to hear moms now citing the experts of today about child-training advice. One goal that seems to be lacking or denigrated is teaching our children self-discipline. Although it seems contradictory or paradoxical, children learn to be self-disciplined by being disciplined and controlled by their parents when young. Children learn that they [...]

Grammar

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I’ve thought about writing up some grammar tips for common mistakes, but Grammar Girl is already doing a great job.

Good birthday

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Today is my birthday and the best present was to have my dad home from the hospital. I know this won’t mean much to a lot of you; but if you could have seen him a few days ago, you would know how far he has come.

ICU

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

I’ve debated about posting this here, not knowing what I really want my blog to contain and what not to contain. I’d appreciate any prayers for my dad who went to the ER on Thursday night and has spent the last three days in ICU with pneumonia and sepsis. “Things looked grim,” according to one [...]

A Cautionary Tale

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

This link was posted on an email book discussion list: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6185854.stmĀ  The story can make us consider whether one really can have too many books (or shelves at least), but I’d rather think that the woman ought to have been reading her books than trying to plug in the TV.
(HT to Lee Ann who doesn’t [...]

“Where’s MMV?”

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I thought this post at MMV was funny. I wish I were half so clever. I can just picture her kids coming in to find her in the morning, pulling down the blankets, and scrutinizing carefully the view trying to determine just where their mother is. And maybe if she lies there very quietly while [...]
