Exciting Day
By patti | September 9, 2006
Today was a more exciting day than I would like to ever have again. I like the calm and sedate. I don’t need excitement and adventure to make me feel fullfilled.
This morning Sam was scheduled to have his wisdom teeth extracted. After successfully accomplishing that, we stopped off at the pharmacy to get the prescribed medications before heading home. We’d been home about an hour when Sassy (Ben’s horse) got in the barn and cut her leg badly on something. I called the vet; but since he wouldn’t be able to come until 3 pm, I had to make other arrangements for my daughter’s piano lesson and the history lesson I was to do with the brother of the piano teacher along with my own son. The vet came out; and after giving Sassy three times the normal dosage of sedative for a horse her size, he stitched her up. But not without quite a bit of excitement along the way. She insisted on standing up, falling over, and thrashing around numerous times which is what necessitated the extra sedative which still didn’t knock her out. I was so afraid she was going to hurt herself. However, the climax of the story is that on her final fall, she fell against the vet’s truck. So then I had to check into getting estimates and finding out if our homeowner’s insurance would cover it. After dinner we worked through our history study. Whew! I’m ready for a relaxing day tomorrow.

Yes, that certainly was an exciting day. It’s like when we travel and we’re happy not to have any “adventures”.
I hope Grace’s horse will be OK and that your insurance will cover the vet’s truck.

Yes, it’s not great to have “adventures” when traveling. We’ve had our share of those, too.

Hi Patti,
Hopping over from Seasonal Soundings via Semicolon. I love your picture at the top (what’s that word for it? mast? masthead?). Haven’t looked at your profile to possibly see where you are from, but that picture has GOT to be at Fort Ticonderoga facing Lake George. Am I right? I’ve only been there twice and the last time was probably 8 years ago. I just love it. And I love Lake George. I would like to be right up there, right now, and stay until the snow falls. Autumn is gorgeous there.
I’ll hop back over in a day or two to see if I’m right!

Yes, Janie, that’s right! I just moved all my posts from homeschoolblogger; but down farther (I’ve dated them as I originally dated them there, you can find links to some travel pictures of a vacation in May 2005 (categorized under “Family”). Not that you really need to be that interested in our family photos….but that trip was the last we’ve made as family. We live in Missouri and went up through Niagara Falls and across New York to do some genealogy in Cortland County and WAshington County. Washington County lies between Fort Ticonderoga and Saratoga, so we went to both places before going on to Boston, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, Valley Forge, Harper’s Ferry, and Antietam. It was a very fun trip. I love to do historical vacations. The time before we made a two-week circumnavigation of Virginia.

Patti, I knew it! And when you cicumnavigated Virginia, you were in my neck-of-the-woods!
